Raksha Bandhan is one of the most endearing ways to celebrate the virtuous bond of love between brothers and sisters, which is one of the deepest and noblest of all human emotions. With an aim to strengthen the bond of brotherhood among the Ramdandees, the school celebrated ‘Raksha Bandhan Utsav’ on 17th Aug 2024, with zeal and zest.
Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in the month of Shravan on a Full Moon day. On this pious day, the sister ties an ornamental thread on the wrist of her brother and applies tilak on his forehead. The brother takes a symbolic vow to protect his sister in her difficult times.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Aparna Shirke, one of the teachers, stated that Raksha Bandhan originated from the sanskrit word “रक्षाबंधनम्”, wherein ‘Raksha’ means protection and ‘bandhan’ means a bond. It shows the pure bond of love, compassion, trust, faith and loyalty. She further recalled various mythological references of the festival. Goddess Laxmi had tied Raksha-Sutra to King Bali to liberate Lord Vishnu. She further narrated an incident of Drupadi and Lord Krishna. When Lord Krishna got cut on his little finger on the day of Makar-Sankranti, Drupadi had cut off a part of her saree and tied it on his finger. In return Lord Krishna promised to protect her. When Draupadi was at her unceremonious 'Chirharan' (disrobing) her saree kept getting extended and Lord Krishna protected her. She further told that Queen Karnavati had sent Raksha-Sutra to Emperor Humayun in order to protect her kingdom from Bahadurshah.
Many Indian women also send rakhi to the soldiers as they protect our motherland from enemies. She urged Ramdandees to protect their friends and sisters from any difficulties they face in their life.
During the ‘Raksha Sutra’ ceremony, Commandant, Head Master, BMS and Principal, BSS tied Raksha-Sutra to the School Captain, School Vice- Captain and School Adjutant, respectively.
Company in-charges tied Raksha-Sutra to Company Captains and Bhavan Appointments while respective class teachers and associate class teachers did the same to the monitors and assistant monitors of their classes.
The programme was compered by Company Adjutant Shourya Gaharwar of class Xth A.
