GURU PURNIMA UTSAV
"गुरु कि महिमा है अगम, गाकर तरता शिष्य । गुरु कल का अनुमान कर, गढता आज भविष्य ॥"
The above quote exemplifies the virtues and importance of ‘Guru’ in one’s life. As per the tradition in India, as well that in our school, ‘Guru Purnima’ was celebrated with much zest and gusto in the school on the 3rd July 2023. All the academic and non-academic staff, military instructors and cadets of Bhonsala Military School actively participated in the celebrations.
Mrs Manisha Mahatme, a renowned lecturer and accomplished counselor of the city, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr Shailesh Joglekar, Chairman, BMS, Nagpur, Mr Rahul Dixit, Secretary, CHMES Nagpur Division and Architect Dilip Chawhan, Member, Governing Body, CHMES, Nashik graced the occasion.
The celebrations commenced with the worship of school and company colours (as the flags are called in the Army parlance) with full military honours and style. The school flag was handed over to the School Cadet Captain Krishna Karnahake by the Chief Guest Mrs Manisha Mahatme. Thereafter, Mr Shailesh Joglekar, Chairman, BMS, Nagpur, Mr Rahul Dixit, Secretary, CHMES Nagpur Division and Architect Dilip Chawhan, Member, Governing Body, CHMES, Nashik and Col Amarendra Hardas (Retd), Commandant, BMS Nagpur handed over the company flags to the respective Company Cadet Captains of Shivaji Company, Rana Pratap Company, Swami Vivekanand Company and Subhash Chandra Bose Company. Cadet Kalpak Saosakade of Class X ‘A’ delivered the opening address. In his speech, Cadet Kalpak highlighted the significance of Guru in one’s life. He emphasised that the Guru removes the shrouds of darkness and enlightens his disciples with power of knowledge. It also transcends boundaries and unites people of diverse backgrounds under the umbrella of learning and reverence.
Speaking on this occasion, Mrs Manisha Mahatme highlighted that a Guru is a mentor who guides us through life’s journey. The Guru imparts knowledge and wisdom, helping us make the right decisions. In education, Gurus play a vital role. They help us understand complex subjects, nurturing our minds for future challenges. She further exhorted that Maharshi Ved Vyas is revered as the greatest Guru. Vedas were passed on from one generation to another by word of mouth. It was Maharshi Ved Vyas who compiled them and Lord Ganesha, as the writer, penned down his words. This way the Vedas were structured in written format. The Guru Purnima is celebrated to acknowledge the tremendous contribution of Maharshi Ved Vyas them and Lord Ganesha. She further emphasized that the Gurus instill wisdom and knowledge, going beyond textbooks and traditional learning. They provide us with a deeper understanding of subjects, fostering critical thinking and encouraging us to question and explore. This intellectual stimulation is crucial for our growth as informed and enlightened individuals.
Like the selfless services rendered by the Guru to his wards, ‘Mother-Nature’ also provides us in numerous ways. Thus, there is a requirement that we should do our best to preserve it. Based on this very spirit, every year a Tree Plantation Drive is undertaken by all the members of Bhonsala Military School, Nagpur on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima. The Tree Plantation Drive also marks the commencement of ‘Inter Bhavan Arboriculture Competition’. Each Bhavan is required to plant and tend to the saplings and nurture them till they become full grown trees. The marks scored in the competition are contributed towards ‘Best Bhavan Trophy’.
The Chief Guest Mrs Manisha Mahatme, Members of Management body, academic and non-academic staff members, military instructors and all the cadets participated in this Tree Plantation Drive by planting saplings with great enthusiasm and fervor.
