In continuation of the ongoing tradition, the school commemorated the great martyrdom of Kargil War heroes by celebrating 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on Wednesday, 26th July 2023 to pay homage to the dauntless soldiers who fought against all odds and gave supreme sacrifices to uphold the honour, pride and integrity of the nation. This year Mr Amitesh Kumar, IPS, Commissioner of Police Nagpur was the Chief Guest.
As a part of the celebration, a route march was undertaken from Laxmi Nagar ground where in four-foot contingent comprising of 389 cadets along with mounted column of 11 horses marched on the melodious tunes of the 'School Pipe Band through the heart of the city on a predesignated route.
Enroute Air Marshal Ajit Bhonsale (Retd), AVSM, VSM received the salute. A large section of general public thronged the roadsides all along the route, showering petals on the passing columns and welcoming with them with the cries of 'Bharat Mata ki Jay. The route march culminated at Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Hall. Prior to the formal commemorative function, the cadets presented a Guard of Honour to Mr Amitesh Kumar, IPS, Commissioner of Police Nagpur who was the Chief Guest. This was followed by wreath laying ceremony held in a precise military decorum at a make shift 'Amar Jawan Memorial. The Chief Guest along with distinguished guest, members of the school management body and Col Amarendra Hardas (Retd), Commandant of the school laid the wreath.
The commemorative function held in the Dr vasantrao Deshpande Hall started with a formal welcome of the Chief Guest, wherein a sapling was presented by Mr Suryatan Daga, Chairman, CHMES Nagpur Division. This was followed by cadets reciting the school song.
The commemorative speech was delivered by Col Amarendra Hardas (Retd), Commandant of the school wherein he said that we have fought five wars against our enemies but this KARGIL WAR was imposed on us. We always support, 'वसुधैव कुटुंबकम', means the whole world is our family. We love peace hence we never commence any war. The Kargil War was fought in extremely adverse conditions which was actually a bigger challenge than the entrenched enemy.
Despite of insurmountable odds in the hostile terrain and adverse weather condition, our gallant soldiers fought and emerged victorious, He further informed about various operation carried out by the Army, Air Force and Navy including "Operation Vijay', 'Operation Safed Sagar' and 'Operation Talwar. Lastly, he said that we should stand united against the odds and we should infuse the spirit of patriotism among the citizens. Thereafter videos of Kargil War and glimpses of the school celebrations over the last 21 years were screened. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest Mr Amitesh Kumar, IPS Commissioner of Police Nagpur congratulated cadets, military instructors, teachers and commandant for exemplary and well disciplined parade and Guard of Honour.
He also lauded the management of the school for instilling a sense of patriotism, discipline, courage, valour amongst the cadets. He further stated that character, honesty, integrity and humanity are the best policies. They help us to work towards brotherhood and nationhood and that should be the pursuit of every responsible citizen.
He urged to never lose their character as it is one of the important aspects of person's life. He further exhorted that police surveillance is for 24/7 but it cannot pay attention to each and every person, hence you should keep your eyes and ear open to make your city the better place to live in.
While addressing to the cadets the Guest of Honour Air Marshal Ajit Bhonsale (Retd), AVSM, VSM stated that the war was fought by very young officers and jawans of the age of 23 and 25 exhibited the spirit of 'never say die' and who at til the last breath to restore the honour of our nation. "The country's security and well being was the responsibility of not only our soldiers but also of our engineers, scientists, ministers and residents of the country". he added. He further exhorted that a soldier will feel proud if he is fighting for responsible citizens of the country. He told cadets to carry the message of 'Be an Indian worth fighting for'. He ended his speech with the following lines from a poem – ‘अजय नहीं अमर नहीं, अजय नही अवतार नहीं, मानव है तू, तेरी क्षमताओं का कोई पार नही ……
The programme was attended by large number of office bearers and members of CHMES Nagpur division, serving and veteran defence service officers and prominent citizens of the city. Mr Ajay Shirke, Headmaster proposed the vote of thanks while the programme was compered by Mrs Kuldeep Sone, Assistant Teacher.
